Version control

We think the list of CQs also can play an important role with version control. For example, a single CQ can be implemented in various ways, such as was explained for the competency question "Does the car drive electric?" in the previous section. The branches containing the various implementations can be linked back to a specific requirement in a CQ. This lets engineers easily switch between different implementations that may be functionally equivalent but have different computational properties.

The implications of this advantage have not yet been fully fleshed out. The handbook currently focuses on the conceptual phase of ontology engineering rather than the implementation or computational phase.
